Dragon fruit production is essential for approximately 14,000 Ecuadorian families directly linked to this industry. The country cultivates two main varieties of Dragon fruit: yellow and red, with yellow being the most predominant, representing 90% of the production. This variety is primarily found in the Ecuadorian Amazon region, with a particular emphasis on Palora, Morona Santiago province. Other producing provinces include Pichincha, Imbabura, Bolivar, Loja, Santo Domingo, Manabi, Los Rios, Santa Elena, Guayas, and El Oro.
The Free Trade Agreement with China is expected to further boost Dragon fruit exports to this Asian market. Once in effect, the 20% tariff is expected to immediately reduce to 0%.
